A short one-hour drive on the N2 from Nelson Mandela Bay’s International Airport, we boast a private, quiet, serene and natural setting nestled a mere 100m from the beach and the beginning of the Two Harbours Hiking Trail. Our facility is a home near the beach with amenities equivalent to a 4-star accommodation rating.

Each bedroom is en-suite and decorated to create a sense of serenity and refuse.

Our homely open plan kitchen opens out onto our dining and spacious living area which leads out to the front deck, lawn, pool deck and entertainment lapa with braai and pool table.

Up the stairs from the lapa is our viewing deck and zen area with views of the Indian Ocean.

Charles Black

Centre Manager

Charles is a graduate of Michigan State University and spent many years in the hospitality industry. After entering recovery for alcoholism over 10 years ago, he “re-tooled” and completed a diploma in counselling and an advanced diploma in Logotherapy. He specialises in Existential Psychotherapy which places emphasis on the human condition as a whole and uses a positive approach that applauds human capacities and aspirations while simultaneously acknowledging human limitations. He has been living permanently in St. Francis Bay where he has been actively involved in the recovery community for many years.

Having personally undergone the experience of substance use disorder, he has developed a deep understanding of the pain and suffering that individuals including friends & families experience. He has witnessed the immense capability individuals possess to find hope and courage through adversity and the profound growth that comes from working recovery.

Jen Suter

Social Worker

Jenny is a highly experienced Social Worker with over 30 years of experience practicing in many different fields including addiction treatment. Her passion is counselling individuals through difficult life circumstances and empowering them to find solutions that work for them. She believes that family and friends are powerful influences in our life, and that, at their best, they can be a great support to a person in crisis.

Her interest in substance use treatment has grown throughout her career as she has seen the devastating effect that it can have on individuals and families. In her own extended family, she has witnessed the inter-generational impact of this disease.

Together with Centre Manager, Charles Black, Jenny launched and facilitated a combined AA/NA group in Sea Vista, the disadvantaged informal settlement outside of St Francis Bay. This work led to the staging of interventions with individuals battling addiction and in particular working with the families affected by the disease through her professional support and guidance. In the broader St Francis community, she has assisted individuals find affordable treatment, supporting them emotionally both pre and post admission. Through her work, she has witnessed the power of the 12 Step Program in assisting individuals recovering from the disease and integrates these principles into her work with clients.

Jenny brings a deep sense of purpose and experience to her work here at Ocean Bay Recovery. She has been married for 40+ year with 2 children and 5 grandchildren. She has lived in 6 countries and moved more than 20 times and has been happily settled in St Francis Bay for 14 years.

Reece Wight

Addiction Counsellor

Reece brings experience and a steadfast commitment to client welfare in his role as an addiction recovery counselor. With over five years of dedicated service in the industry, complemented by his personal recovery journey of six years, he takes pride in his approach of providing the best possible support and guidance to those seeking recovery.

Reece’s international experience, including significant work with organisations in Spain and Thailand, has enriched his understanding of diverse recovery practices. Compassion, empathy, and a steadfast commitment to non-judgmental support define his approach, ensuring that the welfare of clients is always the top priority. After spending time abroad, he has returned to South Africa to join the Ocean Bay Recovery team.

Reece is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) with the Pennsylvania Board of Addiction Counsellors in the United States. In multi-disciplinary team settings, he enjoys working collaboratively with MDT professionals, ensuring comprehensive and tailored support for individuals on their recovery journey. His overarching goal is to guide those in recovery toward long-term success, helping them build lives filled with meaning, purpose, and restored relationships.

Margie Spicer

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Margie is a distinguished clinical psychologist with a wealth of expertise in the fields of substance abuse disorder, mental health and wellness. With over two decades of dedicated practice, Margie has become a trusted professional in St Francis Bay and Port Elizabeth.

Margie’s approach to therapy is both compassionate and evidence-based, incorporating the latest research and therapeutic techniques to provide the highest quality care to her clients. She has a broad range of experience, specialising in anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, and relationship counselling. Her dedication to her clients, her profession, and her community make her a respected figure in the field of clinical psychology.

Drs. Jean Malan & Anina Ellis

General Practitioners

With their private practice established in St. Francis Bay for over two decades, Drs Jean Malan & Anina Ellis are known for their unwavering dedication to providing comprehensive healthcare to residents in our community. With a medical career spanning over 20 years, Dr Malan has established himself as a trusted healthcare provider and has been for many years, the first point of contact for diagnosis and referral of substance abuse disorder patients within the local region.

Dr Ellis encourages her patients to take an active role in their health. She believes that building strong doctor-patient relationships is essential for effective healthcare and works closely with her patients to create personalised treatment plans.

Andrea Peard

Andrea was born in the UK where she completed her schooling and qualification. After completing her nursing education and obtaining her RN license in 1997, Andrea chose to focus her career on psychiatric and community healthcare. She worked at many reputed hospitals and institutions in the UK before moving to South Africa in 2008. She is a dedicated and compassionate registered nurse who has been an integral part of our local community’s healthcare for over a decade. With a deep-rooted commitment to providing exceptional patient care, Andrea is recognised and appreciated by both patients and colleagues alike.

As a local community registered nurse, Andrea has worked tirelessly to provide comprehensive care to patients of all ages. Her expertise ranges from wound care and chronic disease management to health education and preventive screenings. She is often praised for her excellent communication skills, which help patients feel comfortable and well-informed during their healthcare journeys.

Vaughn Bam

ADMINISTRATION MANAGER

His tenure within prominent South African corporations has honed his administrative skills to a high degree, making him adept at managing complex tasks and projects with finesse.
